 HOW IMPROVE EMPLOYEMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN NEPAL?


Employment is the way to gain financial earnings to sustain daily life, and to be purposeful for some specific tasks. It adds the importance of individual in economic growth. While at the organizational level, it relates the employees and employer for the paid services. In Nepal, fourth Nepal Living Standard Survey report showed the unemployment rate climbed up to 12.6 percent in 2022-23 suggesting strong reformatory measures in Nepal to generate employment opportunities in Nepal.

Few methods can be suggested to increase the employment opportunities in Nepal:

Support small scale industries: Small scale industries should be supported the most, as they can be the main source to improve the local economy. They can directly involve the locals for the earning opportunities. As shown in the industrial statistics 2075/76 from National Statistics Office (NSO), the number of scale industries are 51,594, comparatively higher than large industries. Due to lack of raw materials, lack of demand in the market and lack of resources, the industries are in trouble. These industries need support from the government.


Improve agricultural farming methods: Improvement of the farming related services should be the other main priority. From the Living Standard Survey Report, the percentage of land holdings growing paddy has decreased from 76 percent in 1995-96 to 64.3 percent in 2022-23. In 2022, agriculture contributed 23.95% to Nepal's GDP, but more than 60% of households' main occupation is agriculture.

Ways to reform the traditional agricultural practices in commercialized way can boos the national economy. Improvement in seeds, cropping patterns, 


 Improve the university courses: With more than 14 universities in Nepal, Nepal still lacks better courses suitably equipped for Nepali contexts. 112,593 students received foreign study permits (NOCs) to study abroad in the last fiscal year 2023/24 from 17 July, 2023 to 15 July, 2024. The main reason for strong pursuits for Nepali students abroad is lack of employment with the degree courses.


Engage the foreign funding in employment generation: Foreign fund holds major part of the national budget. Foreign investments should be suited for Nepal's own interest for employment generation.
